The GTA V PC petition, started back in late 2012, has now managed to achieve a handsome signature count of over 657,000. The petition was created by Canadian resident Mike Julliard. With the Grand Theft Auto series’ original roots on the PC, a number of GTA fans are calling for Rockstar Games to continue development on the platform. Julliard argues that it would be a huge mistake not to bring GTA V to the PC, before making his appeals to Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive Software.
In trying to make Rockstar realize the existence of a large PC gaming demographic, that could potentially purchase the game, Julliard constructed the following petition request to the GTA V development team and publisher:
“Please release GTA V on PC. GTA games have been a large part of so many people’s lives and it’s a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform. Things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.”
Julliard provided a YouTube video update to the petition site, change.org, where he explained the progress of the campaign and his thoughts on the console iteration of GTA V. After having generated approximately $800 million in worldwide sales, during the game’s first 24 hours on sale, Julliard questions how much more they could have garnered from the extra PC sales.
Julliard also briefly alludes to the contention that a number of developers offer in justifying their decision not to develop PC games, based upon the revenue lost from piracy. He believes that the sales lost through illegal downloads represent a mere fraction of legitimate sales. In addition, he explains that pirated, console copies of GTA V almost immediately appeared on the Pirate Bay – a renowned peer-to-peer file sharing site that provides torrent files – indicating that piracy is not solely limited to the PC.
